Getting high school students to engage with a library is not the easiest job. Petaluma High School Library needed a way to get students interested in books and to make the library experience a fun place to visit. Librarian Connie Williams turned to Guide by Cell for some creative ideas using the student phones as the spark.
Petaluma High School:
- Set up a scavenger hunt for students during Banned Books Week that was advertised throughout the school; bringing students into the library, increasing membership and engaging kids with each other and the school library.
- Assigned student interns to record a “book talk” that was heard by other students.
- Used the Guide by Cell Text Message Alert Service to send pre-scheduled texts to interested students for the scavenger hunt and other upcoming activities.
Librarian Williams told us “I think this is a brilliant solution! I see so much value in this application for schools. The students love it.”
Williams is already working on new mobile twists to use Guide by Cell for a library orientation tour, and for National Library Week events and during Poetry Month.
